Karasek’s theory of job demand-control (JD-C) about work stress has had a great impact on the academic literature and job redesign (Bright, 2001). According to Kompier (2003) the JD-C model is presently one of the most influencing models of stress in occupational health.

Demand model (Karasek, 1989; Karasek & Theorell, 1990) is an acknowledged model, which is often used for explaining work-related stress and -stressors. However the Demand-Control model is based on the industrial society, and in the last 30 years the organizational world has changed dramatically. Karasek’s Job Demand-Control model (1979), was studied. A multiple linear regression was conducted using the results from a telephone survey of 1160 participants; 486 were male and 674 were female. Psychological distress was measured with the Kessler-6. Paid and unpaid job strain was measured with a version of Karasek’s Job Content The model is linearised and further reduced to study the flight stability near hovering, identify the wing motion parameters suitable for control and finally design a flight controller.

The JD-R model assumes that whereas every occupation may have its own specific working characteristics, these characteristics can be classified in two general categories (i.e. job demands and job resources), thus constituting an overarching model that may be applied to various occupational settings, irrespective of the particular demands and resources involved.
